Smiles Northwest is excited to welcome Dr. Alan Chen to our Beaverton Dental Practice. Having met with Dr. Chen numerous times over the past few months, we feel he is going to be a great fit for the practice. Dr. Chen was a standout in school and has progressed to develop excellent skills in both general and implant dentistry. We look forward to having him as part of the Smiles Northwest Team. DR. ALAN CHEN, DMD
Doctor Alan Chen grew up in the Cedar Mill area and after finishing college at Stanford University became interested in dentistry. He was introduced to Dr. Montrose by a family friend, who invited him to visit his office to observe and learn about the profession. He discovered dentistry was the perfect fit for his love of science, art, and caring for people. After graduating from the Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry if 2009, Dr. Chen completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency in 2010 and an Implant Fellowship Program in 2011 at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.
Words from Dr. Chen
Growing relationships with patients and providing them with excellent care and education is imperative to me, which is why I continue pursuing the advancement of my education. Implant dentistry has been an enjoyable aspect of my practice because of the rewarding experience of restoring a patient’s ability to smile and eat again, so they can continue to enjoy life with their family and friends.
Outside of work, I enjoy cooking and spending time with my wife and son, and Kirkie, our golden retriever. (We love Costco, so we named her “Kirkie”- as in Kirkland)
Implant Dentistry Specialist
Dr. Chen is a Fellow of the International Congress of Implantology and a clinical instructor of Implant Dentistry at the OHSU School of Dentistry. Prior to joining our team, Dr. Chen served as a Dental Implant specialist for Kaiser and a general dentist.
Serving the Community
Sharing dentistry with the community is a priority for Dr. Chen, as he serves as the Dental Director for the Oregon Special Olympics Healthy Smiles Initiative and regularly volunteers with local free dental clinics. He also spends one week every year as a camp counselor for Royal Family Kids Camp, a summer camp for children in the foster care system.
In addition to volunteering as a clinical instructor at OHSU, Dr. Chen also gives continuing education lectures to dentists and dental students. He also serves as a mentor and advisor to dental students through the Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity.
